You might want to try looking at www.myfonts.com/whatthefont or other font identifying sites out there. Crop your picture to just the text and upload the file to the site and it will look at the structure of the font to try to identify it for you. Whatfontis is another site.

Once you make outlines the text is no longer text. Which is why you Can’t edit it. A good practice before outlining text is to copy it and past it onto a new layer, then hide that layer by clicking the eyeball on that layer. The hidden text will cause no problems with fonts or imaging but if needed it will contain the original text so you can get back to it and edit it. unfortunately once you’ve outlined the text the only hope you have is to undo. If you’ve saved and closed the file since outlining the text then there is no hope at all. You’ll have to retype the text most likely.

Is it possible you’ve converted the text to outlines, thereby rendering it art and no longer a text object? can you select the text? if so is there simply a line under the text or does the selection show the shape of the letters?

You can create a grid with...wait for it...the rectangular grid tool! it's hidden away under the line segment tool in the tool panel. Just click on the artboard with the tool (don't drag, just click once) and it will pop up a window where you can input your grid measurements.

Hi gdwd I think you're going to need some scripting for this. Clearing the squares can be assigned to an action as it is just select all, then Reduce to Basic Appearance in the Appearance panel flyout menu (assuming your art is as basic as the sample) but the action won't record the use of the effects panel unless you specifically insert a menu item (from the Actions Panel flyout menu) and even then it will need user interaction to set the roughen settings that are needed. A script should be able to bypass the limitations of the Actions Panel. Can’t tell for sure but it looks like the text is positioned below the gradient that you’ve created. The gradient has a ‘color’ blend mode applied so anything under it will pick up the gradient color. Move the text above the gradient

Hi Will, I’m answering from an iPad so can’t do this for you but this looks like something you can use Illustrator’s Image Trace feature by yourself. Place this image into an Illustrator file, click on the image with the selection tool (black arrow at the top of the tool panel) and then choose the Trace option in the control panel near the top of the screen. Then choose the expand button and you’ll have vector art. good luck

Hi Amy you need to expand the art. Select all of the shapes then go to the object menu and choose expand. After that the shapes will be back to basic vectors but will hold the appearance you created AND you’ll be able to use the shapebuilder tool to combine everything.

Hi Bugboy not sure you need to do any cutting at all, you probably just need to align the anchor points better. I Recommend that you use the outline Mode so you can see the vectors (View>Outlines) and zoom in very closely. Use the arrow keys to nudge the art into place (set a very small nudge amount in the preferences if you need to) and/or use the direct select tool to edit the paths that don’t quite fit correctly. You can also use the transform panel to determine the x,y coordinates of any given anchor and then choose the anchor that needs to be perfectly aligned with it and type those values into the same fields in the transform panel. To fix the damage already done with the cutting that you’ve been doing you could select all of your art and then use the live paint bucket to fill back in the missing color gaps. It will see the spaces even though there is no vector shape currently in place to fill. hope that helps

If you have a pattern element that runs off the left side of the pattern bounds then you also have to have that identical element running IN on the right side of the pattern bounds. Or if at top, it needs it's corresponding partner coming in at the bottom. Anything that touches an edge will just look cut off unless you mirror it at the other side. An easy workaround is to not let anything touch the edges of the pattern bounds but that can look divided/ spaced out as well. The overlap helps the illusion but you have to build it properly.

When you make a new document in InDesign you can choose a web document profile and InDesign will offer up a number of web appropriate preset sizes for you. mostly it depends on your target audience. Will visitors to your site be coming mostly on desktop machines, iPads, phones, older equipment or newer? The latest desktop Systems will allow your visitors to see wide screens older systems not so much. Adobe Muse though now at end of life is still a viable option for creating a working prototype. It defaults to a screen width of 960 pixels so maybe a 960 x800 page would be a good place to start, maybe.

Sorry, a .jpg won’t carry link information. You‘ll Have to add the links over your image in your web authoring program. or, you could try using InDesign’s Publish online feature which will allow you to create a working interactive page from InDesign.

Unless you have other objections to Draw, you CAN color under the imported art by setting the imported art layer‘s Blend mode to Multiply. You can access the blend mode by tapping on the layer icon and changing it from normal (no blending) to Multiply or another blend that you prefer the look of.

Either approach will work, Alternate layouts keep the versions under one InDesign document, you create and access the alternates in the pages panel. Otherwise you can link content across documents and yes change page count and make other independent edits in either case.

Is your display performance set to High Quality? (look under the View Menu) If you're printing to a desktop laser of inkjet printer it can often use just the screen resolution rather than the actual image data so if it looks bad on screen it may also look bad in print.

Yes in a sense this is possible. It's what the content conveyors in the tool panel are for. Edits in the original doc will show up as modified links in the child documents. Works with text and images.

Geez, some days I just can't stop myself from doing things the hard way. Easiest yet, Use the group selection tool or hold option/alt while clicking with the direct select tool on the edge path of the shape. Copy and paste. Done.

Ha! There is an easier way! Delete any text from the shape. Use the direct select tool to select the edge of the path. In the Appearance panel give the shape a fill or stroke. Use the selection tool to reselect the shape. Go to Type>Create Outlines and all will be well in the world again.

Do you really need to convert it back to a non-text shape? If you use the direct select tool instead of the selection tool you can click on the path edge and edit the path, stroke and fill it, etc. But if you really want to, John's reply above hints at a workaround. Delete any text in the shape. Then select the path as I suggest with the direct select tool and give it a fill or stroke. Copy it and paste it into indesign. Select the InDesign shape and paste it back into Illustrator, select it again and go to Object>Clipping Mask>Release, Go to View>Outlines so you can see the rectangular mask , select that rectangle and delete, go back to View>Preview. Phew. Maybe someone has an easier way that lets you stay in Illustrator, but this works.
